| Course Description | This course provides an overview and synthesis of global atmospheric
and climate change and its impacts on plants, including crop and natural
ecosystems. The focus is on the physiological processes and other biological
mechanisms that provide the basis for 1) understanding responses and
2) development of predictions. The impacts considered are rising CO2,
tropospheric ozone, rising UV-B, increased nitrogen deposition, and rising
temperature. Emphasis will also be placed on understanding of how atmosphere,
climate and ecosystem interact, and of models developed both to synthesize
current understanding and to predict into the future. Instruction is
by lectures, supported by seminars and hands-on computer modeling. Same as IB 440, and NRES 431. |

| Course Objectives | By the end of this course, students will: - appreciate how and why atmosphere and climate are likely to change over this century - understand the physiological bases of crop and plant responses to these changes - be able to use and understand models for predicting plant responses - be able to apply what you have learned for the objective analysis of the implications of change for crop production, biosphere and society. | ||||||||
| Course Time | This class is only offered during the Spring semester. See the University Course Schedule for times. | ||||||||
