CPSC 454: Plant Breeding Methods

Course Description This course will give the student the opportunity to learn about (and observe) the scientific tools and methods used by plant breeders working with different crop species. The students will be expected to have an understanding of basic genetics and plant breeding prior to enrolling in the class. The class will visit university and commercial plant breeding programs, see plant breeding programs firsthand, and interact with plant breeders working on various crops.
Course Objectives

The students will:

  • gain a better understanding of methods and tools used by plant breeders
  • understand differences in plant breeding methods used with different species.
Course Time Only offered during Summer Session II of EVEN numbered years. (i.e. 2004, 2006, etc.). See the University Course Schedule for times.
