PLPA 200: Plants, Pathogens, and People

Course Description Plant diseases and their impact on food supplies and human history are studied in lectures, demonstrations, and discussions. Issues of food production and safety, pesticide use and human health, and the environment are considered. Includes the biology of the pathogens that cause plant diseases.
Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • identify and describe the causes, effects, and management strategies of plant diseases

  • analyze and evaluate agricultural issues related to plant pathology

  • construct a short position paper on a controversial scientific subject

  • apply what you have learned about plant pathology and agriculture to your life

Grades in Plant Pathology 200 are based on short and long written assignments and on two examinations:

In-class written paragraphs (five, 20 points each) 100 points
Out-of-class 3-5 page papers (three, 100 points each) 300 points
WWW site exercises (two, 50 points each) 100 points
Online Quizzes (10pts each, 20 of them) 200 points
Final Examination 300 points
Total 1000 points

A = > 900 points
B = 800-899 points
C = 700-799 points
D = 600-699 points
F = < 600 points
