PLPA 204: Introductory Plant Pathology

Course Description An introduction to the science of plant pathology. Topics include causal agents of plant diseases, symptoms and diagnoses, modes of infection and spread, effects of the environment on disease development, and methods of control.
Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will:

  • understand the causal agents of plant diseases including bacteria, fungi, viruses, and nematodes
  • understand the epidemiology of various pathogen groups and use their knowledge of epidemiology to develop control strategies
  • have a limited ability to diagnose diseases and recommend control
  • appreciate the effect of disease on growth and development of plants

Grading
Grades in Plant Pathology are based on:
3 examinations on lecture material (100 points each)
2 Laboratory Practicals (100 points each)
Final Examination (200 points)
Grades are assigned on the basis of a percentage scale:
94-100 = A
85-93   = B
75-84   = C
65-74   = D
<64      = F

Lecture and Laboratory exams are cumulative and the plus minus system is not used.
