Software Licensing and Costs
The UIUC campus has a number of site licenses for software. Some of it is commercial and collectively purchased while other packages are shareware or as part of a broad agreement such as Microsoft Select. A good starting point is the CITES web page at http://www.cites.uiuc.edu/software. Some of the packages allow you to purchase a single copy but use it on a home-office basis. Some of the packages are totally free, such as McAfee VirusScan and Putty for secure telnet access. Please go to the CITES licensing site (a.k.a. CITES Webstore) to browse the complete list of offerings.
SAS
SAS Version 9x, including older versions is $50 per year payable through CITES. The license allows you to have a copy on your work and home machines simultaneously. Go the CITES Webstore web page for purchasing site licensed software. For more information and installation instructions, please visit the SAS section at: http://www.cropsci.uiuc.edu/csmyth/techsupport.html. The media is available for loan through Crop Sciences (M103 Turner) or you can purchase your own through CITES. SAS 9.2 is being used for teaching and a DVD and installation instructions is currently available only in M103 Turner.
Adobe
All Adobe products are now purchased through the CITES Webstore including Acrobat, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and so on. For example, Dreamweaver is $85. We have some of these CD's for loan.
Microsoft
Microsoft products are available through the University MS Select program for university owned machines or through the CITES Webstore for student and staff personal purchases. The costs listed below are for university owned machines and varies depending on the product, whether new or updating, and so on. The full list of products (media, documentation, and licenses) can be found at the Central Stores website. We have some of the CD's for the MS Office products which you are free to use as long as you have a license. There is substantial savings by just purchasing a license instead of the over the counter version (which you can also get from Central Stores).
