CPSC 499: Invasive Species

| Course Description | This course offers an in-depth study of past and current invasive arthropod pests, plant pathogens, and weed species affecting natural areas including wetlands and forests, and managed landscapes including nurseries and greenhouses. Pest/pathogen/weed biology including host interactions and epidemiology will be covered to gain a broader understanding of invasive species biology and management strategies. Case studies will be used to describe the ecological and economic impact of invasive species in North America.
FIELD TRIP: There will be one half-day field trip in the Chicago area on a Saturday in June. The exact date is to be determined. Attendance is required, but, in special circumstances an alternative project may be assigned. Students who are unable to attend the field trip will be required to complete a research paper/PowerPoint presentation on an invasive species. The report will be submitted online.
